Coryton Oil Refinery was ceremonially opened on Thursday 27th May 1954 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother sailed from Tower Bridge Pier in the Port of London Authoritys steam launch, St Katharine. After arriving at Coryton and having a tour of the refinery, a commemorative bronze tablet was unveiled in the Cafeteria Building
