EDITORS COMMENTS
This black and white portrait print showcases the remarkable figure of Leonidas Polk, an American cleric and soldier who left an indelible mark on both the religious and military realms. Born in 1806, Polk's journey led him to become the Bishop of Arkansas in 1838 before assuming the role of Bishop of Louisiana in 1841. However, it was during the tumultuous years of the American Civil War that he truly made his mark. Polk's unwavering dedication to his faith and country saw him rise through the ranks as a Confederate general, earning him the moniker "the Fighting Bishop". As we gaze upon this haunting image today, we are reminded of Polk's unwavering commitment to both God and country. It serves as a poignant reminder that even amidst chaos and conflict, there are individuals whose strength transcends boundaries - be they physical or spiritual.
