Barclays ATM, 27th June 1967. Sir Thomas Bland, Deputy Chairman of Barclays Bank, unveils a robot cashier that dispenses cash at any time of the day or night. Designed and developed jointly with De la rue Instruments & the banks Management Services Department, the BarclayCash machine is installed at the Enfield branch. Actor, Reg Varney took time off from filming for the TV series Beggar Your Neighbour at Northwood to be the branchs first customer to use the automated dispenser. By inserting a special voucher and registering his personal code number by means of push buttons. Reg Varney quickly obtained 10 pounds in cash from the machine
