EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the legendary Steve Marriott, lead singer of The Small Faces, alongside his new girlfriend Chrissie Shrimpton. Taken in January 1967 at Marriott's cozy Knightsbridge Mews cottage in London, the image exudes an air of youthful love and rock 'n' roll rebellion. Chrissie Shrimpton, younger sister of renowned model Jean Shrimpton, had recently ended her relationship with Mick Jagger from The Rolling Stones when this photograph was taken. In their statements to the press, both Marriott and Shrimpton expressed their cautious approach towards commitment. While Marriott fondly spoke of his affection for Chrissie but evaded any talk of engagements, she emphasized her focus on pursuing an acting career rather than rushing into marriage. Steve Marriott's impact as a singer-songwriter and member of The Small Faces cannot be overstated. Born on 30th January 1947 and tragically passing away on 20th April 1991, he became an iconic figure within the mod subculture and influenced countless artists who followed him – from Paul Weller to The Sex Pistols. Photographer Robert Young masterfully captured this moment frozen in time – a snapshot that encapsulates not only the fashion and style of the swinging sixties but also the essence of young love amidst a backdrop of fame and music. This remarkable piece serves as a testament to Steve Marriott's enduring legacy as well as his connection with Chrissie during this transformative period in both their lives.
