President Eamonn de Valera admires the seven foot bronze statue of Irish patriot
President Eamonn de Valera admires the seven foot bronze statue of Irish patriot Robert Emmet after the statue had been presented to the government and people of Ireland as part of the 1916 Jubilee Commemoration ceremonies, by US Congressman Daniel J Flood, of Pensylvania (right), in Dublin yesterday. Emmet was hanged in 1803 after an abortive revolt against the British.
The statue was a replica of one carried out by Jerome Connor, an Irishman who emigrated to the US in 1876. The statue was located in an antique dealers yard in Pennsylvania. It was purchased by Mr and Mrs Francis J Kane, of Washington DC, last year and presented on their behalf by the congressman.

EDITORS COMMENTS
President Eamonn de Valera stands in awe as he gazes upon the magnificent seven-foot bronze statue of Irish patriot Robert Emmet. The historic moment took place during the 1916 Jubilee Commemoration ceremonies, where US Congressman Daniel J Flood proudly presented the statue to the government and people of Ireland. Emmet, a revered figure in Irish history, had paid the ultimate price for his unwavering commitment to freedom. In 1803, he was hanged after leading an unsuccessful revolt against British rule. Now, his memory would forever be immortalized through this remarkable work of art. The statue itself was a replica created by Jerome Connor, an Irishman who had sought a new life in America back in 1876. Surprisingly enough, it had resided within an antique dealer's yard in Pennsylvania until Mr and Mrs Francis J Kane discovered its significance and purchased it last year. With great honor and gratitude, they entrusted Congressman Daniel J Flood with presenting this symbol of resilience on their behalf. And so it came to pass that President Eamonn de Valera found himself standing before this powerful representation of Ireland's struggle for independence. This photograph captured not only a significant historical event but also serves as a reminder of the enduring spirit that courses through every Irish citizen's veins. It is a testament to those who fought valiantly for their homeland and serves as inspiration for future generations striving towards liberty and justice.
