Pneumonia, X-ray
Pneumonia. Coloured chest X-ray of a pneumonia infection (red) in the top lobe of the patients right lung. This is community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) or infectious pneumonia, which is caused by various types of bacteria, most commonly Streptococcus pneumoniae. The pathogen is inhaled into a lung segment or lobe. The alveoli (air sacs) of the lung become blocked with pus. Pneumonia is most widespread among the elderly or immune-impaired. Symptoms include fever, chest pain, coughing and blood in the sputum. Treatment is usually with antibiotics, although some bacteria are now resistant to many antibiotics
