Sir Peter King, 1st Baronet (later 1st Baron) of Hinton, was a prominent English statesman and theologian of the early 18th century. Born in 1669, King rose to prominence under Queen Anne's reign, serving variously as Solicitor General, Attorney General, and Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. His political career was marked by his strong support for the Church of England and his opposition to the Whigs, earning him the nickname "King the High Churchman." In this striking portrait, Sir Peter King is depicted in an oval format, his long, curly wig framing a face marked by intelligence and authority. He wears a chain signifying his knighthood and a robe of office, symbolizing his high-ranking position.
