This photograph captures the moment two de Havilland DH114 Herons, XM295 and XM296, of the Queen's Flight are seen awaiting delivery to RAF Benson from de Havilland's Chester factory. The Herons, a versatile and popular transport aircraft, were manufactured by the de Havilland Aircraft Company between 1945 and 1951. XM295 and XM296 are seen here with their distinctive silver and blue livery, emblazoned with the Royal Crest, reflecting their important role in transporting members of the British Royal Family and other VIPs. The Herons were known for their reliability, efficiency, and ability to operate from short runways, making them an ideal choice for the Queen's Flight.
