EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this photograph of the internal bar at the Union Tavern in Woolwich, London. Dating back to the 1930s, this historic pub opened its doors in 1935, becoming a beloved watering hole for the local community. The Union Tavern, operated by the Charrington and Company Limited, is depicted here in all its 1930s glory. The bar, adorned with ornate wood paneling and mirrored surfaces, exudes an air of elegance and sophistication. The polished mahogany countertop, gleaming with the reflection of the brass taps, is a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. The bar stools, upholstered in a rich, red velvet, invite patrons to take a seat and enjoy a pint. The Union Tavern, located at SE18 6LS, was a cherished establishment in the heart of Woolwich, New London. The photograph, taken in 1936, captures the essence of a bygone era, offering a glimpse into the past. Regrettably, the pub no longer exists, as it has since been replaced by a block of flats. This photograph is a treasure trove of history, transporting us back to a time when a visit to the local pub was an essential part of daily life. It serves as a reminder of the rich history and character that once defined the pub culture of London in the 1930s.
