Miss Anne Pierpoint Morgan

Anne Tracy Morgan (July 25, 1873 January 29, 1952), youngest daughter of the financier, John Pierpoint Morgan and American philanthropist who provided relief efforts in aid to France during and after World War I and World War II. From 1917 to 1921 Morgan took residence near the French front, not far from both Soissons and the " Chemin des Dames" at Bl鲡 ncourt, and ran a formidable help organisation, The American Friends of France (it employed several hundred people at a time, volunteers from abroad and locally recruited staff), financed partly out of her own deep pockets, partly with the help of an active network in the States.[4] The AFF was active in succoring noncombatants, organizing a health service that still exists in Soissons, a workshop to provide basic furniture to bombed-out families, a holiday camp for children, and a mobile library that was taken over by the library in Soissons, and so on. She returned in 1939 to help the Soissons evacuees. Date: 1918

EDITORS COMMENTS
Miss Anne Pierpoint Morgan, the youngest daughter of the renowned financier, John Pierpoint Morgan, is depicted in this evocative photograph taken in 1918 during her humanitarian efforts in France. At a time when Europe was ravaged by the horrors of World War I, Anne took up residence near the French front, in Blancourt, not far from Soissons and the infamous 'Chemin des Dames.' With a deep sense of compassion and a commitment to providing relief, Anne established The American Friends of France (AFF), an organization that would employ several hundred people at its peak, both volunteers from abroad and locally recruited staff. Financed largely from her own substantial resources and with the help of an extensive network in the United States, the AFF focused on succoring noncombatants and offering essential services to those affected by the war. The organization's initiatives included a health service that continues to operate in Soissons, a workshop to provide basic furniture to families whose homes had been destroyed, a holiday camp for children, and a mobile library. Anne's dedication to helping the people of Soissons began in 1917 and continued until 1921. Her selfless actions during this period brought much-needed relief and hope to the war-torn region. In 1939, as Europe braced for another conflict, Anne returned to Soissons to help the evacuees, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to the people of France.
