In 1554, Cujas was appointed as a magistrate in the Parlement of Bordeaux, and later, in 1562, he became a counselor in the Parlement of Paris – the highest judicial body in the Kingdom of France. Among his most notable contributions are "Institutiones Iuris Civilis," a comprehensive commentary on Justinian's "Institutes," and "Commentarius Rerum Criminalium," a groundbreaking study on criminal law. These works not only solidified Cujas's reputation as a leading legal scholar but also significantly influenced the development of European legal thought. Despite his professional success, Cujas's life was not without challenges. He lived during a time of political instability and religious conflict in France, which often disrupted the legal system. However, Cujas remained dedicated to upholding justice and maintaining the rule of law. In 1590, at the age of 68, Cujas passed away in Bourges, leaving behind a rich legacy in the field of jurisprudence. His works continue to be studied and revered by scholars and legal professionals, making him an enduring figure in the history of French and European law.
