The Conibos, also known as the Conisani or Cashinahua, are part of a larger cultural group known as the Tacana-Cashinahua, who have inhabited the region for thousands of years. The image showcases a group of Conibo men, women, and children, each dressed in their traditional attire. The men wear loincloths made from tree bark, while the women and children are adorned with colorful body paint and feathers. Their hair is styled in intricate braids and adorned with flowers and feathers. The Conibos were known for their skill in agriculture, hunting, and fishing. They cultivated crops such as yams, bananas, and plantains, and hunted game such as peccaries, monkeys, and jaguars. They were also expert fishermen, using nets and harpoons to catch fish in the rivers and lakes. Despite their self-sufficiency, the Conibos were not immune to the encroachment of European settlers and the spread of diseases. By the late 19th century, their population had been decimated, and many were forced to abandon their traditional way of life and assimilate into Peruvian society.
