Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Brougham studied law at the University of Edinburgh and was called to the English bar in 1800. He quickly rose to prominence as a lawyer, earning a reputation for his eloquence and his commitment to social justice. In 1830, he was appointed Lord Chancellor, a position he held until 1834. Brougham was also a prominent figure in British politics, serving as a Member of Parliament for various constituencies throughout his career. Despite his many accomplishments, Brougham's later years were marked by controversy and scandal. He was involved in a highly publicized divorce case and was accused of embezzlement. Nevertheless, he remained a respected figure in British society and continued to advocate for social reform until his death in 1868.
