EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures a pivotal moment in history - the Battle of Assaye in 1803. In this intense battle fought near the village of Assaye in south-central India, Major General Arthur Wellesley led an outnumbered Indian and British force to victory against a combined Maratha army. The image showcases the bravery and determination of the soldiers from The Highland Light Infantry as they charge fearlessly towards their adversaries. Clad in traditional Scottish attire, these men embody both their Scottish heritage and unwavering loyalty to Britain. The vibrant colors bring life to this collectible piece from "Battles for the Flag" a set of cards given away with British boys comic The Wizard. It is evident that every detail has been meticulously captured by W. R. S Stott, an unknown artist whose talent shines through his portrayal of this historic event. As we gaze upon this print, we are transported back to Hindoostan (India) during the nineteenth century when patriotism ran deep within these brave souls. Their courage serves as a reminder that even when faced with overwhelming odds, unity and determination can lead to triumph on the battlefield. Let us honor those who fought valiantly at Assaye and pay tribute to their sacrifice for country and freedom.
