EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back to the grandeur of Beaumont Lodge in Windsor, Berkshire, circa 1818. The artist, MS Barenger, beautifully captures the essence of this stately home nestled on the banks of the River Thames. Originally built by Henry Emlyn in 1790 and later acquired by Viscount Ashbrook in 1805, Beaumont Lodge became a cherished residence for George IV's friend. Its architectural features are showcased prominently in this print - from the majestic portico that adorns its entrance to the lush green landscape that surrounds it. The image also offers glimpses into daily life during this period with animals grazing peacefully nearby. Cattle roam freely amidst nature's beauty as boats gently sail along the river. Over time, Beaumont Lodge underwent various transformations - first becoming a training college for Jesuits and later serving as a Catholic boarding school until its closure in 1967. Today, it has been repurposed as a conference center since 2003. Thanks to MS Barenger's artistic talent and attention to detail, we can now appreciate both the architectural splendor and natural serenity that defined Beaumont Lodge over two centuries ago. This print serves as a testament to its enduring legacy within British history and reminds us of its significance as an iconic landmark in Windsor's picturesque countryside.
