EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in aviation history. The image showcases the aeroplane that made the first flight of a circular mile in Great Britain, circa 1909. John Theodore Cuthbert Moore-Brabazon, 1st Baron Brabazon of Tara, is seated confidently at the controls of this pioneering aircraft. Lord Brabazon was an accomplished aviator who learned to fly in France in 1908 before making his mark on English soil. On May 2nd, 1909, he became the first Englishman to achieve an officially recognized aeroplane flight in England at Shellbeach on the Isle of Sheppey.
