EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the exquisite artwork of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo's "Adoration of the Magi". Created in 1745, this particular print was made in 1928 using pen with wash on paper. The original piece is housed in the Collection of the Kupferstichkabinett der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, Germany. Tiepolo, an Italian Venetian painter and printmaker, was a highly esteemed artist who worked not only in Italy but also in Germany and Spain. Known for his grand frescoes adorning churches and palaces, he was elected President of the Academy of Padua. His talent extended beyond large-scale works to include etchings and oil paintings. Considered one of the most important artists of his time, Tiepolo's skill shines through even in this monochrome rendition. The scene depicts the biblical story from the New Testament where three wise men or magi visit baby Jesus after his birth. The Virgin Mary is shown wearing a headdress while adoringly holding her child. This illustration is sourced from "The Drawings of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo". Volume II by Detlev Baron Von Hadeln published by The Pegasus Press in Paris during 1928. It showcases Tiepolo's mastery over composition and detail. With its rich historical significance and artistic brilliance, this print serves as a testament to both Tiepolo's genius as well as religious devotion throughout centuries past.
