Spence-Jones, published around 1910. In this historic depiction, we witness Lady Godiva (1040-1080), a courageous and compassionate woman, alongside her husband Leofric (d. 1057), the formidable Earl of Mercer and Lord of Coventry. The story goes that to alleviate the heavy burden of taxes on their people, Leofric made an audacious promise - he would reduce these taxes if his wife rode through the streets of Coventry completely naked.
