EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print by Jane Sweeney from EyeUbiquitous, we are transported to the hauntingly beautiful Bamiyan Province in Afghanistan. The image captures a poignant scene of abandoned tanks scattered across a vast field, with the majestic silhouette of the ruined citadel of Shahr-e-Gholgola standing tall in the background. The history behind this ancient city is as tragic as it is fascinating. Once known as the City of the Screaming, its name derived from the horrifying screams that echoed through its streets when Genghis Khan and his army mercilessly slaughtered its people in 1221 A. D. However, Shahr-e-Gholgola also earned another moniker - the City of Noise - due to its vibrant and bustling atmosphere before its destruction. This photograph serves as a powerful reminder of both human resilience and devastation. It invites us to reflect on our shared history and contemplate how civilizations rise and fall throughout time. The juxtaposition between these abandoned war machines and the remnants of an architectural marvel evokes a sense of melancholy but also sparks curiosity about what once was. Jane Sweeney's skillful composition allows us to appreciate not only her artistic talent but also her ability to capture emotion within still frames. Through this photo print, she transports us thousands of miles away into a world filled with echoes from centuries past.
